Fall Races and Goals

So this past weekend was the start of my Fall Race Season. I have three weeks in a row of 5k's then a 30 mile Bike Trip followed by Spartan Race.
Certainly very busy.
Why am I sharing this? Because they were all goals of mine. When was the last time you ran a 5k? Doesn't matter if you place. The goal is to get yourself.. well, a goal.
I try and set a goal for each race.
This past weekend I aimed for a top 3 in my age group along with getting a Personal Record. Nailed both of them.
Goals are VERY important. If you don't have a goal, then why are you working out?
So sit down, look at your calendar and pick an event to compete in. Whether it's a 5k, Half Marathon, a Mud Run or a Triathalon, pick something out, work towards it, then complete it.

That's it for now!
See ya soon.

Summer heat and other stuff

It's hot out... Are you not heading outside to workout?

Understandably. However, I challenge everyone to do some workouts in the heat this summer. Nothing too stressful, but a bike ride, short jog or a good swim are all good choices.

Couple things to keep in mind:
HYDRATE. Drink water before you go out and keep some on hand while you're outside.

Take lots of breaks. Your goal is to be uncomfortable but not near death, obviously. If you feel light headed, STOP. If you stop sweating, STOP! Be smart and listen to your body!

Working out in uncomfortable situations (i.e. cold, heat etc) help push your body past it's normal limits when done in moderation.

Again, be smart, but don't be afraid of getting SWEATY!
